Henry Vilas Zoological Society Designs

The purposes of the Henry Vilas Zoological Society was to teach the public of zoology and its the value, to stimulate interest in and appreciation of the animal kingdom, to educate the public to be kind to animals and prevent animal cruelty, and furthermore, to promote the Henry Vilas Zoo located in Madison, Wis. The Henry Vilas Zoo, owned by Dane County, is one of the very few free-admission zoos in the country. The Zoological Society solicited, raised, collected and received contributions, donations and gifts to benefit the zoo.

Zoo Run Run - Predator vs. Prey (2016-2018)

BRIEF: Create the annual year fundraiser run event's logo with the year's themed animals.

2017 - Zebra vs. Lion

2018 - Gopher vs. Badger

2019 - Red Panda vs. Snow Leopard

Each year's theme was based on a predator and a prey. Runners would be able to select which they preferred and were given headbands with coordinating ears to represent the predator or prey. In 2019, it was difficult to find headbands, so the gophers vs. badgers collegiate rivalry fueled the theme.

Zoo Lights (2016-2018) & Brew Lights (2017)

BRIEF: Initially, design a logo for the new holiday light event. Later projects included: branding, marketing and other event collateral ideation.

APPLICATIONS (My boss then applied event logos to most collateral): posters, gate banners, social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), swag (beverage containers, hats, bottom openers, ornaments), Pepsi Can marketing, coupons, billboard (design from ad company), photo booth picture print-out, Picture with Santa step & repeat, other promotional signage

The initial brief included the request to 1) avoid traditional Christmas colors (red & green) and 2) incorporate an animal from the zoo into the event mark–ideally the Polar Bears. I created the initial event posters/gate banner designs; before printing, my boss made alterations based on the year's sponsors.

The Pepsi can was only used in the 2016 kick-off Zoo Lights event, set to become an annual event with the Henry Vilas Zoological Society.

Rendez-Zoo 2018: "Take Flight"

BRIEF: Create the annual gala logo based on the designed theme, "Take Flight." Create day of event materials for evening event.

APPLICATIONS: posters, gate banners, hand-out postcard for promotion, event map hand out for attendees, directional and day of A-frame signage, restaurant stand signs, beverage/bar stand menu signage, gobo light stencil, swag, photo booth picture print-out
